I received this yesterday afternoon and read the whole thing last night. The spiritual encouragement you will receive is waiting.It’s all there— all the major questions: in relationship with God, as loving Daddy/Papa; in theology about sovereignty and spiritual warfare, as well as prophecy and how do we know if we are really hearing his voice; and within ourselves, as to how much will we choose to love and trust him no matter what, when nothing is making sense.And all of that was worked through in weakness, the weakness that comes from trauma (especially in childhood) and from experiencing the dark, dark night of the soul, when everything is stripped away, and the sheer physical processes of panic have engrained themselves into our very brains.God’s strength and Andrew’s strength both show up in Andrew’s weakness. His own strength in Jesus and from Jesus was demonstrated in his persevering and enduring in spite of utter depression and overwhelming anxiety that was virtually all-controlling, in circumstances that evoked all the trauma he had experienced in childhood and formed his “emotional” view of God, to the point of abiding thoughts and even plans for suicide.He says he was weak, but his perseverance in spite of his “mortal wound” shows how strong he actually was—even though he had to receive it from God, minute by minute.And Daddy God (Papa God) so tenderly and lovingly healed his heart through all of it.We’ve been there. Our story is Andrew and Norine’s story, but on a smaller scale, of course. The essence is the same. The healing is the same. Our God is the same. Their story is really all of ours (again, on different scales of magnitude), and that’s what makes it so incredibly encouraging and even transformative for anyone who reads it.My very favorite part is at the very end, when he explains why a prophetic word to him for his release from prison on a certain date did not occur. Instead, “live in the question” with them as he tells the story, so the answer will hit you like a ton of bricks.Norine, in so many ways, you are the human hero in this story.
