I was kind of disappointed with this book. I've read about 80% of the book before I decided that I am just not getting much value from it. It's definitely not what I thought it was. Like many have mentioned, it was written a long time ago, so the stories are very dated although still somewhat interesting. Many of the traders are futures and commodities traders. Many of them use fundamental analysis in their trading decisions. Some are not even traders at all and are actually investors. There's a big difference between traders and investors.The advice give by most of the traders is pretty general and I was not able to find any real gold nuggets. It's more of a historical piece of trading history than something that will actually help you in your own trading strategy. Overall, I think the book is an interesting read if you are curious about different trading and investing styles and/or would like to be more familiar with some of the trading legends out there, but don't read it expecting to walk away with some new trading knowledge that you can apply to your own discipline. That to me makes it an overrated book in my opinion. I purchased the book based on the rave reviews of those in the trading community, but found it to be dated and subpar at best. It's interesting to read for experienced traders. After you have made many mistakes trading some of what they say may help you realize they made the same mistakes. The only really take away after reading this is...1)learn from your mistakes 2)make rules and stick to them 3)update your rules if you find something works better.
